The methods, models and technologies in the context of Big Data approaches has coined a new understanding of empirical analyses. First success stories of such kind of analytic data base systems exist in many domains. This research follows the question if software measurement can take advantages from Big Data. Considering the problems in software measurement applications and practice are described using the Big Data approaches and existing resources. Important for large empirical studies are a new kind of data sources driven by cloud based development solutions. Therefore, we concentrate on the available project data managed by GitHub. Examples of Big Data applications demonstrate their benefits in software measurement practices and communities. |
