With the growing requirements of network bandwidth and service classes, the technologies of wavelength division multiplex (WDM) and orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) are promisingly selected in the next generation passive optical network (NG-PON). Additionally, the peer-to-peer (P2P) communication is becoming more important in the future. In this paper, a multi-cluster WDM-OFDM-PON architecture used for P2P communication and 5G networks is proposed. Especially, the bandwidth-variable wavelength selective switch (BV-WSS) will improve the network performance, due to its scalable technology. So the proposed architecture will provide high speed and high network throughput. At the same time, one performance assessment scheme of a dynamic bandwidth allocation (DBA) algorithm for this architecture is proposed. Considering the diversities of various services including the P2P traffic, the DBA algorithm is aware of the fairness of different users and classes of service (CoS). Simulation results of the proposed DBA algorithm in this WDM-OFDM-PON architecture show the reductions of traffic delay and increments of the network upstream throughput. |
