Title
APSEplus: a MATLAB toolbox for parametric energy simulation of reference buildings
Abstract
A critical problem in energy and building system identification and model fitting is the absence of experimental datasets sufficiently big to serve as training data. In this paper we introduce APSEplus (Automated Parametric Simulator for EnergyPlus) a third-party toolbox for EnergyPlus, entirely developed in MATLAB, that allows for automated randomized parametric simulations over the Commercial Reference Buildings Models developed by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). The simulation routine is launched and controlled in the MATLAB environment and is based on the automated modification of the EnergyPlus input text file (IDF) by replacing the standard value of several physical parameters of the envelope constructions with random values drawn from specified distributions. This produces \"realistic\" synthetic datasets that can be used to train fitting and identification techniques to be applied on real commercial buildings.
