The open-neutral fault occurring on the low voltage feeder may results in overvoltage, which is difficult to be detected at the supply-side of feeder. This paper proposes an open-neutral fault detection method by using the 3 rd harmonic sudden change index. This method can be realized by the embedded chip in the circuit breaker and therefore enhance the protection ability of circuit breaker installed at the supply-side of feeder. The selectivity and sensitivity of the proposed method are thoroughly investigated by analysis, simulations and experiments, respectively. The design procedure of the device used to conduct experiments is also provided in this paper. |
