In the modern era of software-defined networking (SDN), network monitoring is becoming more important in providing information for SDN controllers to control networks. However, current monitoring methods, based primarily on sampling and polling, have performance and granularity limitations. In-band Network Telemetry (INT) is a new method that can perform end-to-end monitoring directly in the data plane, enabling real-time and fine-grained network monitoring. In this paper, we present an INT architecture for the UDP and discuss its design and implementation in Open Network Operating System (ONOS) controller. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first INT monitoring system in ONOS. |
