•Hypoglycemia induces significant changes in EEG properties.•EEG features based on Higuchi’s fractal dimension are sensitive to hypoglycemia.•The proposed nonlinear indicators are computationally efficient.•Fractal analysis indicators might be suited for real-time applications.
