Abstract
•Relation between f0 and prevoicing in Afrikaans plosives is documented.•All speakers produce, and perceptually use, f0 effects of phonological voicing.•Younger speakers rely less than older on VOT in both production and perception.•Generationally determined cue weighting assessed as possible ongoing sound change.
