Abstract | ||

The 2017 Flash Memory Summit revealed many major advances in solid-state storage. This article will discuss some of these advances as well as the drivers for solid-state storage. Updated International Data Corporation's (IDC's) projection is that, by 2025, human civilization will generate over 160 zettabytes (ZB) of data but will retain only about 2-3% of the data on digital storage devices, as shown in Figure 1. Note that only about 16 ZB of data total were generated in 2016. |
