•This study uses Health Information Technology to assess the quality of the medication process at an institutional level.•To our knowledge, this is the first study of its kind conducted at a sizable pediatric healthcare institution.•Such studies may unravel unknown gaps, and may spawn further studies of sub-processes and locales within an institution.•Such studies help to establish baseline performance data for medication process, allowing comparison between organizations. |
