•We consider the constrained waveform design for Multiple-Input Multiple- Output (MIMO) radar to synthesize a desired beampattern.•A new Sequential Iterative Algorithm (SIA) to devise the waveform involving constant modulus and similarity constraints is proposed.•Results highlight that the proposed SIA outperforms the existing Cyclic Algorithm (CA) in terms of RMSE, computation time, beampattern. |
