Waste management is encouraged in modern industrial practice, given the potential environmental benefits and the possibility of adding value (the upcycling concept). However, reuse has been depending only on the individual designer's creativity. A systematic tool that could support the identification of reuse opportunities could be quite useful. A method originally devised for identifying reuse opportunities of supporting goods was found in our literature research. We tested it for another application - not a supporting good, but a common waste product - plastic bottles. We were able to find many non-obvious ideas for reuse. Thus, the method is effective for the new application. We also report some opportunities to improve the method used. |
