Title
Analysis of a future VDES uplink slot carrier-sense TDMA MAC protocol with decollision algorithm.
Abstract
We analyze the performance of a Satellite Slot Carrier-Sense TDMA (SCTDMA) medium access control (MAC) protocol with a decollision algorithm for future maritime VHF Data Exchange System (VDES) in this paper. The key contribution of this paper is the theoretical analysis of this MAC protocol which will be used in the future maritime communication networks VDES. The key parameter in this proposed MAC protocol is the maximum number of packets that can be recovered by a decollision algorithm. The larger this number, the higher the throughput performance of this proposed MAC protocol. The throughputs and the corresponding offered load points for the maximum normalized throughputs of the proposed MAC protocol are derived and investigated. Both finite packet arrival population and infinite packet arrival population models are modeled, derived and analyzed with new results. Numerical results show that the maximum normalized throughput gain of the proposed MAC protocol can be at least 5.3 times that of the Slotted Aloha MAC protocol for both finite and infinite population models with a decollision algorithm that can recovered up to 4 packet transmissions in an access slot of a frame.
