We present a smart-phone based portable ultrasound (US) imaging system (SPUS), which consists of the smart-phone (Galaxy S5 LTE-A, Samsung. Korea, android 7.0) and a 32-channel system. The developed system contains analog and digital front-ends, and mid-processor, and USB 2.0 similar to 3.0 Interface, user interface. The smart-phone contains the back-end processing and real-time image display on a graphical user interface (GUI). The SPUS developed can provide real-time B-mode imaging with maximum frame rate of 50 (i.e., USB 2.0 interface), and it has a battery life of approximately 3000mAh. The weight and dimension of the SPUS are 203g (without battery) and 173mm x 59mm x 28mm in length, width, and height including exterior, respectively. The performance of SPUS was evaluated in a phantom and in-vivo experiment. As a result of the phantom experiments, the -6dB lateral and axial resolution (0.29 mm and 0.76mm), contrast resolution(6.8dB) and signal-to-noise ratio (23dB) at focal point. These results indication the SPUS can support a real-time B-mode imaging technique at the same time support good image quality. |
