•An unsupervised meta-optimization for fitting parametric model to time series.•Minimizes standard deviation in model variables and magnitude of residuals.•Model variables can be used for classifying land cover.•Method is completely parallelizable and scales linear with geographical area.•Method derives optimal setting for each time series individually.
