In present scenario of renewable energy generation systems, brush-less and magnet-less generators are becoming more popular due to merits such as high reliability, robustness, fault tolerant capability and almost maintenance free operation, etc. This paper deals with a brushless induction synchronous generator (BInSyG), where an induction and a synchronous machine are housed in the same structure to operate as a synchronous machine. The field current is controlled by the induction machine which can operate in braking, motoring or regeneration mode. Preliminary performances of this machine have been studied and characteristics curves for different modes of operation have been demonstrated. A control algorithm has also been devised for the induction machine by maintaining power drawn by induction machine zero. Simulation studies have confirmed the effectiveness of the proposed control algorithm in standalone mode. |
