Title
Scalable Video Coding Based on the User's View for Real-Time Virtual Reality Applications.
Abstract
The transmission of virtual reality (VR) video requires huge bandwidth, which brings great challenges for the system implementation of real-time applications. This paper proposes a scalable panoramic video coding method to adapt the insufficient bandwidth. The feedback of user's movement information from VR device to video encoder is utilized. The regions that user is interested in are first mapped and then coded in high quality while the others in low quality. Experiments show that our optimized system leads to approximately 87% average reduction of bit-rate while there is no significant decrease in quality of region-of-interest in panorama.
