A 64–67GHz partially-overlapped phase-amplitude-controlled 4-element beamforming-MIMO receiver |

A 4-element beamforming-MIMO receiver (RX) operating at 64-67GHz and capable of 2-stream reception is presented. The RX achieves a max direct conversion gain of 30.15dB and a min NF of 9.8dB across 548MHz IF BW. Phase shifters with 360° phase control and VGAs with 11dB dynamic range are used to enable steering of RX toward two arbitrary incident angles. By partially overlapping RX elements into two clusters of 3-element phased arrays, both beamforming's coherent processing gain and MIMO's multiplexing gain are achieved with reduced number of RF front-end resources. |
