Abstract
•Microcontroller driven system for measuring stem diameter variations was designed.•The system’s sensor uses a full bridge strain gauge for displacement measurement.•The system makes automatic measurements and stores data in a secure digital card.•The system produced valid results when tested on two different plant species.•The system is suitable for making measurements on herbaceous and woody stem plants.
