Abstract
•The scattering transform is proposed for author authentification in art images.•Sparse linear classifiers are used in the classification stage.•Two datasets of high-resolution paintings are analyzed.•Results show excellent performance, superior to the state of the art on similar data.•Analysis of selected features reveals the importance of deep layers.
