Title
Achievable rate and power efficiency in uplink massive MIMO system under antenna correlation
Abstract
Massive MIMO possesses a unique feature for enhancing the spectrum efficiency (SE) and energy efficiency (EE) compared to the conventional MIMO systems. Use of large antenna system makes the channel statistically uncorrelated leading to data processing through the linear detector. A Large number of antennas across base station cannot be accommodated in a linear fashion. Antenna placement in 2-D and 3-D increases the degree of compactness resulting in antenna correlation. It mainly reduces the capacity performance and is still a limitation for massive MIMO systems. This paper analyses the achievable rate and power efficiency under different spatially correlated environment for different placement geometry and compared to the ideal IID channel in massive MIMO system. This analysis has been done for the uplink scenario, where the derived expression for achievable rate and power efficiency have also been numerically validated.
