This article presents a numerical implementation of the activation process for Gigabit passive optical networks and Ethernet passive optical networks. Both are completely different because Gigabit PON was developed by International Telecommunication Union and Ethernet PON by Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. The speed of an activation process is the most important in blackout scenario because end optical units have a timer after expiration transmission parameters are discarded. Our results prove lower time duration activation process (thanks to lower frame duration in Ethernet PON) in Ethernet based PON but the maximum split ratio is only 1:32 instead of un to 1:128 for Gizabit PON. |
