The present paper proposes a method to estimate the line-current harmonics due to a generic electric/electronic load with a frontend consisting of a line-commutated single-phase full-wave rectifier, by using only DC-link measurements. The developed methodology accounts for the presence of passive filtering components both in the AC and DC sides of the frontend. The estimation of line-current harmonics solely from DC-link measurements permits the removal of expensive isolated AC-side transducers, allowing low-cost appliances to perform power quality monitoring and to determine with accuracy their harmonic emission. The proposed estimation method exploits the spectra translation theory of full-wave rectifiers and a model of the input and output passive filters to obtain a direct formula to compute the line-current harmonics from DC-link measurements. |
