Title
Slow Light With Surface Modes Of Photonic Quasi-Crystals
Abstract
In the present work, eight-fold rotational symmetric photonic quasi-crystal structure is analyzed to explore the feasibility of supporting slow light surface modes in such configurations. The interface between the surrounding medium (air) and photonic quasi-crystal is modified to sustain surface guided optical modes for slow light applications. The directional photonic band gap and surface modes are revealed by two-dimensional finite-difference time-domain analyses. It is shown that group index around similar to 70 can be achieved. The potentials of slow light realized with surface modes of photonic quasi-crystals may contribute certain applications of photonics where strong light-matter interaction is of paramount importance.
