Title
Passive range localization of the acoustic moving source using the demon spectrum
Abstract
A model-independent method of the range localization for a moving source using a single receiver is derived. The Demon (detection of envelope and modulation on noise) spectrum demodulated from the broadband noise of the vessel is obtained by the absolute low pass demodulation technology. A relationship between the range interval and the difference between the acoustic field at two different ranges is analyzed theoretically. The analogous quantity to intensity of the difference is constructed in the time and time interval plane. The interference pattern of the constructed intensity is observable and the radial velocity of the moving vessel can be estimated using the period of the vertical interference oscillations. For the moving vessel, the CPA (Closest Point of Approach) existed in the track and the corresponding range and time information can be obtained through matching search. The range of the target at each time can be estimated combining with the time information. The proposed algorithm is tested on experimental and simulated data with the accuracy within 10%.
