Title
Type-aware virtual machine management for energy efficient cloud data centers
Abstract
•The paper gives a comprehensive description on the virtualization and VM management in the cloud computing environments.•The paper tackles the problem of inefficient energy consumption in cloud data centers by proposing: (1) A distributed approach to energy efficient dynamic VM consolidation with novel ideas, (2) A novel VM placement strategy and formulate it mathematically. The strategy considers the types of jobs to be executed on the VMs before the process of VM placement.•The proposed work is evaluated using CloudSim simulator with real workload traces. The results of the performance evaluation demonstrate that the proposed approach is able to enhance the energy efficiency in the cloud data centers.
