Sustainable green data center: Guaranteeing flow deadlines in chains of virtual network functions with MRouting
Abstract
•We modeled and analyzed the flow scheduling problem in chains of VNFs, including the packet processing at NFV devices. We also explored the properties of DRFQ to support the design of MRouting.•We proposed MRouting to guarantee the deadlines of flows in chains of VNFs. MRouting determines the flow scheduling sequence and makes data rate control, as well as routing selection, for flows to complete their transmissions before deadlines.•We conducted extensive experiments to evaluate the performance of MRouting. Besides guaranteeing the deadlines of flows, it also improves the network throughput and resource utilizations.
