•It proposes a simple analytical approach to improve the accuracy of 1st-order averaging approximation, without resorting to high-order averaging, whose algebra is difficult, if not impossible, to perform for high-dimensional problems and/or when there are multiple high frequencies.•When averaged vector fields cannot be constructed analytically, a recently developed tool of weighted Birkhoff averaging is used to accelerate its numerical construction.•Section 3 demonstrates in details how the proposed method helps analyze and design a promising engineering device for wireless energy transfer (based on nonlinear parametric resonances), which has already passed multiphysics simulation tests and began to be fabricated by engineers. |
