Title
A performance indices based self-tuning approach to the calibration of the 2DOF structured control loops in SI-engines
Abstract
The calibration process of today's spark ignition (SI) engine control systems is a complex and cost-intensive procedure. One reason is that a large number of controller parameters in an Electronic Control Unit (ECU) should be optimized in the calibration process. To cope with increasing demands in control performance issues on the one hand and reduce calibration effort on the other hand, applications of two degree of freedoms (2DOF) control structures are gaining importance in control systems embedded in the SI-engine. In order to further reduce the time and effort needed in calibration, a performance indices based self tuning method for optimization of controller parameters is proposed. This method has been implemented in an ECU for tuning controller parameters in the rail pressure control loop. Results from the validation with test vehicles and on an engine test bench at IAV GmbH are shown.
