Title
Seamless VANET Connectivity through Heterogeneous Wireless Network on Rural Highways.
Abstract
Vehicular Ad hoc Networks (VANETs) is a subclass of Mobile Ad hoc Networks where moving nodes are vehicles that move with very high speed on roads. The continuous availability of the network for efficient and reliable communication is the major challenge in vehicular networks due its dynamic topology. The network gets partitioned due to the high speed of vehicles or due to sparseness. Therefore, in this paper we have proposed heterogeneous wireless network architecture by integrating three wireless technologies namely, WLAN, cellular networks and WiMAX which aid in providing seamless connectivity in the network. We have also proposed a novel position based routing algorithm that works well in our proposed architecture. We have simulated the proposed work in NS 2.34 and evaluated the performance in terms of packet delivery ratio and end-to-end delay for 50 nodes in the network. Simulation results show significant performance improvement of our proposed routing algorithm in comparison to AODV and GPSR routing protocols.
