Title
Evaluation of Natural Language Processing (NLP) systems to annotate drug product labeling with MedDRA terminology.
Abstract
•FDA Adverse Event Reporting System (FAERS) is used to identify adverse events (AEs).•Extracting known AE data from drug labels may increase FAERS case review efficiency.•Annotation guidelines were written to create gold standard set of AE terms in labels.•Several NLP tools were evaluated for extraction of AE terms and mapping to MedDRA.•Detailed error review to identify challenges for NLP tools to code drug label AEs.
