Abstract
•FSFLA aims at maximizing the network lifetime based on application specifications.•The number of CHs and their distribution across the entire network can be adjusted.•The fuzzy rule base in the FSFLA protocol is optimized using SFLA algorithm.•Protocol considers effective parameters as fuzzy inputs to find the candidate nodes.•The simulation results show the proposed FSFLA protocol outperforms other protocols.
