The concept of the Internet of Things (IoT) has opened a newparadigm in the interaction between objects and humanbeings. In the IoT, sensors and actuators are embedded inphysical objects and interconnected through wired andwireless networks, creating new opportunities from hardware, software, and applications. In this regard, sensors playa fundamental role to extract valuable information of theobject and its environment. The enormous significance ofsensors for developing valuable applications in the IoTmakes them a hot spot in research activities, where miniaturization, performance, and power consumption are themost important lines of development. It is expected thatmore than 25 billion connected “Things” will be in use by2020. Each of this IoT entitites will contain at least onesensor; therefore, it is desirable to integrate cost-effectivesensors. This special issue is aimed at serving as a major platformto facilitate the discussion and exchange of researchideas and technology development, encourage multidimensionalknowledge sharing, and enhance research activitiesin investigating strategies to optimize techniques for sensortechnology. In total, seven papers are included in this specialissue and are summarized as follows.Three papers describe different technologies |
