Vehicular Scenario Simulation Methodology to Compute Time-Variant Statistics for V2V Channels |

This paper presents a ray-tracing simulator for a vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communication channel based on two-dimensional (2-D) scattering to obtain the angles of departure (AOD) and angles of arrival (AOA), from which the channel statistics are computed. The functionality of the simulator is exemplified with an overtaking scenario where the wireless radio channel exhibits a non-stationary behavior of the superposition of multi-paths at the receiver due to the rapidly changing scenarios. Furthermore, this work considers vehicles as potential obstructors of the line-of-sight (LOS) and signal paths bounced-off the scatterers randomly distributed on both sides of the road. From the scenario simulation, the time-variant (T-V) AOD and AOA probability density functions (PDF) are computed for the transmitter (TX) and the receiver (RX), respectively. Afterward, the Doppler power spectral density (DPSD) is derived. The proposed simulation methodology, through the comparison of T-V DPSDs, allows understanding the impact on the channel's behavior when the vehicles are considered as signal paths obstructors due to their distributed dimensions. |
