Title
An Efficient Method to Determine the Size of Bladder Using Electrical Impedance Tomography
Abstract
Patients suffering with neurogenic dysfunction lack urinary consciousness therefore it is necessary to know about the urine volume inside bladder for determining the time for emptying. As the amount of urine collected in bladder increases the size of the bladder increases and it displaces the neighboring tissues. It is necessary to find an efficient method that can be used continuously for long periods to determine the bladder volume. In this paper a non-invasive electrical impedance tomography (EIT) imaging method to monitor the condition of human bladder using electrical impedance tomography is presented. The forward problem of EIT is solved using boundary element method while the inverse problem of estimating the size and shape of bladder is done with Levenberg-Marquardt method. Numerical simulations with pelvis shaped domain are carried out to evaluate the feasibility of the proposed method.
