Abstract
•VTCI is a near real-time indicator for drought monitoring and highly related to crop growth conditions.•BP ANN model as useful tool to integrate maize growing information of indicators at different stages.•VTCI and LAI values as input variables improves BP ANNs’ simulating accuracy.•The developed IMGMI is very reliable for estimating the regional maize growth conditions.
