•A multi-layered point reordering approach is proposed to have further enhancement.•Point reordering inside each thread warp is concerned in GPU implementations.•Virtual connectivity matrix is defined to have a view of point locality after reordering.•Significant enhancements of GPU speedups are achieved for the test cases presented.
