Title
Dynamic Load Balancing across Multi-radio Access Bearers in 5G
Abstract
Ever increasing demand for data combined with limited availability of spectrum resources put pressure on network equipment vendors to optimize the radio resource utilization in cellular network. In this paper, we have proposed a novel call flow and load balancing algorithms at session management function (SMF) and user plane function (UPF) of 5G architecture. These efficient load balancing algorithms are created with the knowledge of real time load information from 3GPP 5G Next Generation NodeB (gNB), and non-3GPP WiFi, Access Point Controller (APC). We also took user's QoE (Quality of Experience) in each radio access into account before making the load balancing decision. Our analytical model leading to simulation results reveal that up to 30% improvement in overall throughput of the network.
