Design of an Automatic Steering System in a Small Farm Tractor
Abstract
This study, an additional electro hydraulic circuit was designed and assembled to a conventional hydraulic steering circuit of a small farm tractor (Kubota L4708). The proposed hydraulic circuit is able to connect with a microcontroller which was programmed to command the steering system by using a pre-calculation path way. It is not only flexible to merge with a GPS or a visual navigation module but the system also has a manual/auto mode, easy for replacement and maintenance. The design that is suitable for farming comprises of a 4/3 electro hydraulic proportional valve with infinite position as a main steering actuator. The proportional valve allows the left/right position and velocity control of the front wheels while pressure in the system can be adjusted by proportional feature of the valve and a separated PID control loop via an identified system transfer function.
