Abstract
•Business interoperability is key to achieve meaningful interactions to create value in digital based cooperation.•Cooperation issues due to lack of interoperability constrain the success of buyer-supplier dyads.•Despite the existing contributions in business interoperability, it is missing a cohesive framework.•A Business Interoperability framework is proposed to detail interoperability, assess conditions and improve it.•A case study was conducted in an automotive buyer-supplier dyad to demonstrate the framework.
