Influence of passive elements on prediction of intradiscal pressure and muscle activation in lumbar musculoskeletal models |
Abstract | ||

•The nonlinear rotational moment/force produced by intervertebral disc, ligaments, and facet articulation were incorporated into the OpenSim lumbar model.•Five models with different modeling of passive elements were constructed to analyze the individual effects of passive elements on the load prediction.•The passive range of motion of the model under various external loads were validated against published results.•Advantages and disadvantages of the proposed model are discussed and considerations on future perspectives are provided. |
