This paper studies some challenges in Internet of Things-based remote healthcare and smart environment sensing domains. A cloudlet architecture with virtual sensors is proposed and its advantages are discussed in the context of resolving certain issues. The issues are handled by applying sensor virtualization techniques in cloudlet and developing a PaaS platform to support relatively expensive computation at the edge. The utility of our design has been summarized with a number of use case implementations, test results, and performance metrics, based on the challenges we initially faced. |
