Abstract
•We integrate carpooling and walking tours in the vehicle routing problem.•We propose a dedicated variable neighborhood search to explore the solution space.•The increased complexity due to synchronization constraints is efficiently handled.•We introduce realistic instances provided by an industrial partner.•Obtained results are compared to current practice.
