Microgrid is a system composed of a micro power, electrical loads, an energy storage system, and control units. In this study, we presented a novel household smart DC microgrid based on the DC microgrid model. We developed a suitable voltage standard for our microgrid system. Then we analyze the correlation between solar and wind energy based on the practical meteorological data acquired from National Renewable Energy Laboratory and we discuss how to estimate the priority of solar and wind energy. Furthermore, we proposed a novel coordination control strategy of a DC microgrid based on DC bus signaling, which consists of the control of the converter using renewable energies and the control of the inverter for the energy storage system. We further proposed a novel topology of smart DC circuit breaker for the communication between the load and DC bus. The working principle of the topology was validated by simulation which demonstrated that the circuit breaker can not only realize breaking of mechanical switch with zero current input, but also work as a basic module of power router to achieve energy routing.
