Experimental Validation of Coherent DSP for Combined Fibre-Optical / Terahertz-Wireless Links
Abstract
This paper experimentally validates the effectiveness of state-of-the-art single-carrier digital signal processing algorithms used in digital-coherent fibre-optical transmission systems to also compensate for transmission impairments arising from THz wireless links. This is an important step towards the realization of combined fibre-optical / THz-wireless links where a single DSP stage at the receiver is able to correctly decode the signal. Experimental results of a 58 cm-long 16QAM THz link with up to 100 Gb/s net capacity demonstrate the robustness of the fibre-optical DSP algorithms regarding THz transmission at a carrier frequency of 300 GHz.
