•In this paper, there are three highlights. First, few scholars use fractional order to study non-constant suspended sediments in this respect.•Secondly, we use the continuous-time random walk(CTRW) framework to provide a basis for this fractional model, so that the appearance of fractional orders is not abrupt.•Third, we get the changing laws of concentration of suspended sediment and find some interesting phenomenon by solving the equations and analyzing the results. |
