Abstract
•First algorithm for removing non-relevant regions in hierarchies of partitions.•Efficient algorithm with O(n log(n)) time complexity.•The regions of the simplified hierarchy are regions or union of regions of the initial hierarchies.•Evaluation on natural image analysis and illustrations on hierarchical clustering of data points.•The method can be used as a pre- or post-processing step to enhance the quality of hierarchical segmentation algorithm.
