•An actor-model based distributed ant-colony system is presented.•Scalability issues are shown and discussed.•The obtained results allow to run very efficiently ACO-based computing applications.•A direct follow-up is clearly visible, desynchronization of the pheromone table update should yield good scalability results in the future work. |
