Design of Three Single-phase Power-Factor-Correction Boost Converters Joined with a Controllable Singe-phase Inverter for a Self-excited Induction Generator
Abstract
This paper proposes and designs three single-phase power-factor-correction (PFC) boost DC-to-DC converters joined with a controllable single-phase full-bridge DC-to-AC inverter to achieve both voltage magnitude and frequency control of a self-excited induction generator (SEIG). Generally, the output voltage magnitude and frequency of an SEIG can be significantly affected by random rotational speeds and connected loads. The proposed three PFC converters are properly connected at the output terminals of the studied SEIG to maintain the DC-link voltage and correct the output power factor of the SEIG. The single-phase inverter is connected to the DC link to generate a single-phase AC voltage with fixed voltage magnitude and frequency for feeding single-phase AC loads. The designed three PFC converters joined with the controllable inverter are properly controlled by using a high power-factor preregulator and a digital signal processor, respectively. The studied complete system configuration is simulated by using a software while the simulation results are validated by laboratory experimental tests. The simulated and experimental results show that the output AC voltage magnitude and frequency of the studied system can be well maintained by the proposed control scheme under different rotational speeds and various loading conditions of the studied SEIG.
