Title
Comparison of Wind Turbine Generators for Roof-top Wind Power: Case Study, Issues and Challenges
Abstract
The demand for electrical energy is ever increasing due to the rapid growth in population and industrialization. To cater the needs of the increasing energy demand, power generation from renewable energy sources like wind and solar is gaining interest, since they are environment friendly. The rapid urbanization all over the world has resulted in many high-rise buildings in cities. On the other hand, remote places do not have access to the grid and hence power generation from wind and solar are viable alternatives. In this paper, a case-study for wind power generation in the state of Goa is carried-out. Various wind turbine technologies available for roof-top wind power plants are studied. Further, various generators used in tandem with the wind turbines are compared and possible improvements in the generator design are suggested.
