•The approach for crane path re-planning in a dynamic environment is proposed.•The dynamic constraints in the construction site are classified and prioritized.•A decision mechanism is developed into SWP to generate path when it is necessary.•The adaptivity of the SWP-enabled constraints optimization service is investigated.•The validity of this approach is demonstrated by simulation in a BIM environment.
